Holmes Hole Sailing Association Herreshoff 12 1/2 One Design Fleet
2021 Vineyard Haven H-12 class sailing program for 2021.

The H-12 fleet will operate, within HHSA guidelines, using its sailing and racing instructions.  The starting line and on the water race management will be provided by the Vineyard Haven Yacht Club.  Both organizations have been very helpful and welcoming to the new fleet.

On Thursdays the H-12 fleet first gun will sound at 4:40 PM.   The HHSA larger boats first gun will sound at 5:00 PM.    On Sundays the H-12 fleet first gun will sound at 1:10 PM.   HHSA larger boats first gun will sound at 1:00 P.M.   H-12 Thursday races will be just for fun, no cup, but the order of finish will be announced that evening.  The idea is to sail with as many boats as possible and to just have a great evening on the water. On Thursday if you want to fly a kite (spinnaker) go ahead and have fun. Sunday will be race day.  Winner will awarded a HHSA coffee cup and results will be announced by HHSA later in the day.   These results will count towards the season standings.  HHSA does have a procedure where by you can throw out 40% of your finishes.  This allows one to throw out a bad race or two and allows one to miss a few Sunday races while still remaining competitive in the overall standings.

Phil Hale has printed the “VINEYARD HAVEN H-12 SAILING GUIDE”  on water proof paper and he has one for each boat. Give Phil a call at the Shipyard's office 508-693-0400 and he will give one to each boat.  Allow a few minutes of time while he explains the book to you.

ALL COURSES WILL BE SELECTED BY THE RACE COMMITTEE BETWEEN 15 AND 30 MINUTES BEFORE EACH RACE.  COURSE SELECTION WILL BE BASED ON WEATHER AND SEA CONDITIONS AT THAT TIME.

Sunday will be a race day, results announced by H.H.S.A later in the day. The winner of the Sunday race will get an H.H.S.A coffee mug.

At the end of the season there will be awards for the first three places. H.H.S.A does have a procedure where by you can throw out a race or two where either you did not place well or could not start the race. I will get the specific details on throw outs once they are posted by H.H.S.A .

   Courses:  See Below.

For the Herreshoff fleet, there are four courses and charts with course description. Please read them and if you have any questions please let me know.  A complete PDF printout with pictures of new racing marks, courses and Membership poster is available for download.

Please join H.H.S.A. using their website, the small fee pays for the above race management by the V.H.Y.C. and H.H.S.A.

In June there will be a meeting to kick off the season and I will provide a" Vineyard Haven H Class Sailing Guide" that I have put together including course descriptions, sailing suggestions and some speed tips. It has been printed on water proof paper so you can take it on the boat, there will be one per boat.
